New K-8 Charter School Begins “Ready to Open” process in Wake County
RALEIGH, NC, UNITED STATES, September 15, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Encompass Montessori North Carolina received approval to begin its Ready To Open process in Wake County on Tuesday, September 8, 2026 from the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. It will provide free, public, and open-to-all Montessori education to the students of Wake and surrounding counties, expanding choice for families.
Key to a Montessori education is a hands-on, developmentally-appropriate model in multi-age classrooms. Students learn self-direction and self-regulation from the earliest ages, while engaging deeply in the foundations of education. Hands-on materials help students master the lessons on a deeper level, and Montessori students routinely outperform their counterparts.
A recent meta-analysis of the research on Montessori published in Campbell Systematic Reviews found that “Montessori education had a significant positive impact on academic and non-academic outcomes.”
Not only are students academically stronger, but an early focus on cooperation, teamwork, and collaboration prepares students with 21st century skills. Unmatched among educational models, Montessori’s social and emotional learning supports students in and beyond the classroom.
“As an educator, I respect the rigorous academics in Montessori classrooms,” says Dr. Katie Brown, Encompass Montessori NC Board President. “As a parent, I love that Montessori is a whole-child approach. Every child is valued for their own unique gifts.”
To design a state-of-the-art public Montessori school, Encompass Montessori NC drew on the National Center for Montessori in the Public Sector’s whole school model and resources and worked closely with Epic Change Education in planning facilities and operations.
The school is slated to open in fall of 2028. The Board of Directors is currently seeking an Executive Director and will participate in the year-long NC DPI training to ensure the school is ready to receive families for school year 2028-29.
