Singer Equipment Company Modernizes a Century of Growth, Becoming an Early Adopter of Agentic AI with Avalara

Longtime Avalara customer benefits from unified tax determination, exemption certificate management, and research across the business
DURHAM, N.C., Oct. 14, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Avalara, Inc., the agentic AI leader in global tax and compliance, today announced that Singer Equipment Company, a more than 100-year-old provider of commercial kitchen equipment and installation services, has deepened its use of the Avalara platform by becoming an early adopter of Avalara Aviator, the company’s new agent hub for tax and compliance.

Founded as a small local store, Singer Equipment Company has grown through a series of mergers and acquisitions into a major supplier serving restaurants, schools, stadiums, and commercial kitchens nationwide, with two core lines of business: the distribution of foodservice equipment and appliances, and installation and contracting services. That rapid, acquisition-driven growth left the company with a patchwork of tax systems and manual processes that had not kept pace with its expansion.
“Because of the growth and placing ourselves number one in so many places in the market, our tax landscape had not necessarily played catch up, and that’s the absolute truth,” said Preya Chandan, Senior Tax Accountant at Singer Equipment Company.
Singer Equipment Company has been an Avalara customer since 2011, and has expanded its use of the platform over time to include Avalara AvaTax for transactional tax calculations, Avalara Exemption Certificate Management (ECM), and Avalara Tax Research for jurisdictional research backed by authoritative sources.
At Avalara CRUSH 2026 last month, Chandan also shared her early experience as a beta customer of Avalara Aviator, Avalara’s newly unveiled agent hub that moves tax and compliance teams from guidance to executable action.
“As a tax accountant focused on audit readiness, I need tools that go beyond answering questions to help me think about the ones I haven’t asked yet,” Chandan said. “Avalara Aviator does that in one place, explaining taxability in plain language, surfacing considerations I might have missed, and providing trusted research I can rely on for detailed, audit-defensible work.”
Chandan highlighted the ability to view and compare data across Singer Equipment Company’s multiple entities on a single dashboard, without manual report-building, as a standout capability — one she said is helping the company move toward using AI-driven insights as audit-defensible support for its tax positions.
